Brief History

Slide 1

The concept of the BUREAU FOR ISLAMIC EDUCATION started as a school for Islamic Education (Madarasatul Nuril Islam Society) targeted to educate women living in Ikoyi and its environs in 1983 at No. 2 Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. The Bureau for Islamic Education was duly registered at the Corporate Affairs Commission on the 21st November 1991 with a Certificate of Registration No. 6487 and a NINE (9) Member Board of Trustees. Before the death of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed in 1993, he declared and dedicated the property at No. 17 Ruxton Road Ikoyi Lagos as WAQAF bequeathed to the Muslim Ummah.

About

In The Name Of Allah The Beneficent The Merciful

The Bureau for Islamic Education is a socio-religious and benevolent organization with the fundamental objective of promoting and propagating the true teachings of Islam by educating/enlightening Muslims and fostering friendship, cooperation, and understanding among Muslims and between Muslims and adherents of other faiths.

Our Vision

Teaching and propagating the basics and truth of the Islamic Religion.

Our Mission

Harness resources (Human, Financial, Materials, etc.) to teach and propagate Islam and encourage non-Muslims to see Islam as it is, not necessarily through the action or inaction of Muslims.

Strategic Objectives

  • To educate and enlighten Muslims in Nigeria and around the world by propagating and spreading the true teachings of Islam as it is in the holy Qur'an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
  • Promote friendship and cooperation between and among Muslims by providing a forum (Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Conferences, etc.) for unity, understanding, exchange of views, and dissemination of Islamic knowledge among Muslims and, where necessary, between Muslims and other faiths.
  • Establishment of Islamic Centres (Schools, Libraries, and Mosques), Radio/TV stations, Hospitals/Clinics, and other facilities that will enhance the welfare of Muslims and the propagation of the Islamic Religion.
  • Work in partnership with similar organizations (Local and International) as well as Muslim countries to uplift Islam and Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.

Board of Trustees and Management Committee

The founding members of the Board of Trustees are Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed, Alhaji I.Y Abdullahi (SarkinBai,Gombe), Engineer Hamman A Tukur, Ambassador Adamu Muhammad, Alhaji Shehu Mohammad (Sarkin Shanu,Kano), Alhaji Mai Aliyu Muhammad, Alhaji Usman Bari, Alhaji Mustapha Muftau.

In 2019 the Board of Trustees was reconstituted with Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Hadejia, Alhaji Ahmed A. In 2024, Alhaji Yusuf NJie and Alhaji AbdulHakeem Uthman Mustapha SAN were appointed to the Board to replace Late Mai Aliyu Muhammad and Late Shiekh Ibrahim Uthman Zaria.

After the relocation from No. 2 Glover Road, Ikoyi Lagos to the permanent site at No. 17 Ruxton Road Ikoyi Lagos (which was later named the Abdulkadir Ahmed Islamic Centre), the Board of Trustees/Management Committee was chaired by Late Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed and in his absence Late Eng. Hamman Tukur was directed to chair all meetings at the time. In 1994, the Board of Trustees formally appointed Late Engineer Hamman Tukur to continue as chairman.

Due to the absence of the Members of the Board of Trustees in Lagos, the stakeholders established a Caretaker Management Committee, consisting of Islamic teachers and some members of the community, to run the affairs of the School and the Mosque. Late Alhaji A. G Aliyu was first appointed as chairman of that committee. After his death, AIG Alhaji Mu’azu Idris Hadeja was appointed, who was later succeeded by Late Brigadier General Aminu Maude and then Late Alhaji Mustapha Alkali. Alhaji Tjjani Borodo succeeded Late Mustapha Alkali, and in 2018, the Caretaker Management Committee was formally dissolved by the Board of Trustees headed by Late Alhaji (Ambassador) Adamu Muhammed. In the same year, new working documents (an amended Constitution, a Standard Operation Procedure, and a Condition of Service for Employees) were approved, and a Management Committee under the Chairmanship of Late Alhaji Mai Aliyu Muhammed was established.

In 2024, a new Executive Management Committee (EXCO) was constituted/inaugurated under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Yusuf N’Jie.
